What needs cleaning?

Driveway

Driveway and concrete cleaning, then sealing or painting

Melbourne driveways and paths go green and black with mould and algae over the damp months, which looks tired and gets slippery. Plain concrete can take a firm clean, while exposed aggregate and pavers need more care so the finish isn't damaged. We'll talk you through the best approach for your driveway.

Once it's clean, we can seal a driveway, paving or courtyard, or paint a concrete driveway. A sealer helps the surface resist stains and makes the next clean easier, and paint gives tired concrete an even colour. Sealing and painting are quoted after a look.

Driveways and paths are one part of what we clean. House walls, decks, patios and fences are on our house washing page, and roofs on our roof cleaning page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does driveway pressure cleaning cost?
Our price guide for a standard residential driveway is $150 to $400. The instant estimate on this page works it out at $4 to $6 per square metre from your driveway's size, with a little added to the top of the range for bits the measurement can miss. Both are a guide only, and the price is confirmed after a look.
Can you remove oil and tyre stains from my driveway?
Fresh oil and tyre marks usually lift well. Old oil that has soaked deep into porous concrete can leave a shadow. Send a photo of the stain and we'll tell you what to expect.
Can you seal or paint my driveway after cleaning it?
Yes. Once it's clean, we can seal a driveway, paving or courtyard, or paint a concrete driveway. Sealing and painting are quoted after we've seen the job.
Should I seal my driveway or pavers after cleaning?
It's optional, but often worth it: a sealer helps the surface resist oil, tyre marks and staining from leaves and moss, makes the next clean easier, and brings back the colour of exposed aggregate. It doesn't make concrete stronger. The surface must be completely dry before sealing, or trapped moisture can leave white patches. How long a sealer lasts depends on the product and how much traffic it gets. We can clean and seal as one job, and sealing is quoted after a look.
Is pressure cleaning safe for exposed aggregate and pavers?
It is when the pressure suits the surface. Exposed aggregate and pavers need more care than plain concrete so the finish isn't damaged.
Can you clean painted concrete?
Painted concrete needs a gentler clean than bare concrete, and paint that's already loose or flaking can lift when it's washed. If it's due for a fresh coat, we can paint the driveway after cleaning it.
Will the mould come back?
Shaded, damp spots grow mould and algae again over time. A sealed surface is easier to keep clean, and a periodic clean keeps it under control.
Am I allowed to pressure clean my driveway under Melbourne's water rules?
Only in certain situations, but a stained driveway is one of them. Under Victoria's permanent water saving rules, drinking water can't be used to clean hard surfaces such as driveways, paths and concrete, except after an accident, a fire or a health or safety hazard, when staining has developed (and then only once a season), or during construction or renovation. In those cases you must use a high-pressure cleaner that delivers 9 litres a minute or less if one is available, otherwise a hand-held hose with a trigger nozzle, or a bucket. The rules don't apply to rainwater, greywater, bore water or recycled water.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry public liability insurance.
