“Con and Wayne done an outstanding job pressure cleaning the roof of our house, pressure cleaning the concrete in the backyard, and painting the whole interior of our house. They were very professional and easy to communicate with. Great lads who do great work! Would highly recommend!”

Moss, lichen and algae removal for Melbourne roofs

Melbourne's damp winters leave roofs, especially the shaded, south-facing side, covered in moss, lichen and black algae streaks that hold moisture and make a home look tired. Whether you call it roof cleaning or roof pressure cleaning, the pressure has to suit the roof: too much can crack tiles, force water under them or damage the coating on a metal roof like Colorbond.

That's why we quote roofs after seeing a photo or the roof itself. Send us a photo and we'll talk you through what yours needs.

It's worth doing before a sale or an inspection, or to bring back the look of the whole home. If the driveway, paths and walls below have gone green too, we can quote those at the same time: see driveway and concrete pressure cleaning and house washing.

Frequently asked questions

Do you pressure clean roofs?
Yes. The pressure has to suit the roof: too much can crack tiles, force water under them or damage a metal roof's coating, so we look at the roof before we quote.
Will roof cleaning damage my roof?
Not when the pressure suits the roof, which is why we look at the roof and its condition before we quote.
Can roof cleaning cause leaks?
It can, if water is forced up under the tiles, which mostly happens when a high-pressure jet is aimed up the roof or into the tile overlaps. Roofs without sarking (the membrane under the tiles) are the most vulnerable, and water that gets in can stain ceilings and soak insulation or light fittings. A roof that already lets water in during heavy rain is likely to leak during a clean too. If your roof has leaked before, or has no sarking, mention it when you text photos.
Can a fibro or asbestos cement roof be pressure cleaned?
Not if there's any chance it contains asbestos. High-pressure water shouldn't be used on any roof that might. The Victorian Government's asbestos advice is not to drill, sand, cut or use high-pressure water on materials that may contain asbestos, and it says a home built or renovated before 1990 likely contains some, with corrugated roof sheets and ridge capping among the common places. WorkSafe Victoria also restricts high-pressure water jets on asbestos at work. If you think your roof could be fibro or asbestos cement, say so when you text photos.
How much does roof cleaning cost?
It depends on the size, pitch and type of roof and how much growth there is, so we quote roofs after seeing a photo or the roof itself. Text a photo of your roof to Wayne on 0423 916 005 for a quote.
Will the moss come back?
Moss, lichen and algae grow back over time, fastest on the shaded, south-facing side of a roof. A periodic clean keeps it in check.
Should I get my roof cleaned before solar panels go on?
Yes, it usually makes sense to clean first. Once panels are installed, the tiles underneath are hard to reach, and taking panels off later to get at the roof costs money. The same goes for a roof repaint or any other work on top of the roof: a clean surface is the right starting point, and it gives a clear look at the condition of the tiles and pointing. If your panels are already on, mention it when you text photos of the roof.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry public liability insurance.
