House washing, decks, patios and fences

Melbourne's damp winters leave house walls, decks, fences and paths green with mould and algae, which looks tired and gets slippery underfoot. Different surfaces need different pressure: concrete and pavers can take a firm clean, while render, painted weatherboard and timber need a gentler touch so the finish isn't damaged. We'll talk you through the best approach for your place.

Timber decks and fences go grey and green over winter. A pressure clean lifts the grime and growth, and if the timber then needs sanding and a fresh coat, that's our deck restoration service. Driveways and paths have their own page: driveway and concrete pressure cleaning, with an instant estimate from your address.

Doing the whole front? House walls, paths and the driveway can be quoted as one job, and roofs have their own roof cleaning page. A clean is a good start before a sale, an inspection or a repaint.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a quote?
Call or text Wayne on 0423 916 005 with photos of the job, or use the quote form on this page. Quotes are no-obligation.
How much does pressure washing cost in Melbourne?
The price guide on this page shows typical ranges, for example $200 to $500 for a deck or patio (timber or concrete) and $150 to $400 for a standard residential driveway. They're a guide only, confirmed after a look. Where a job lands depends on the size of the area, the surface, how much mould and grime has built up, and access, such as height or a tight side path. For flat areas, the quote tool on this page gives an estimate. Text Wayne photos and your suburb on 0423 916 005 for a free, no-obligation quote.
How much does deck pressure cleaning cost in Melbourne?
Our guide price for pressure cleaning a deck or patio, timber or concrete, is $200 to $500, depending mainly on its size and how much grime and green growth has built up. On timber, the pressure has to be kept low, because a strong jet can roughen the boards. A clean is often all a deck needs. If the boards have gone grey or rough, or the old coating has worn through, a clean alone won't bring them back, and a restoration with sanding and a fresh coat of stain is the next step. Text Wayne a photo and we'll tell you which your deck needs.
Do you clean decks and fences, or only restore them?
Both. A pressure clean lifts grime and green growth from timber decks and fences. If the timber then needs sanding and a new coat, that's our deck restoration service.
Is pressure washing safe for render and weatherboard?
Render, painted weatherboard and timber can be damaged by too much pressure, so they need a gentler clean than concrete. Render and Hebel have a thin textured coating that a strong jet can mark or chip, and on painted weatherboard, high pressure can lift paint and push water in behind the boards. Sound brick usually copes well, but soft or crumbling mortar can be washed out by a narrow jet held close. On a home built before 1970, have old paint tested for lead first, because lead paint shouldn't be pressure washed. We'll talk you through the best approach for your place.
Will it remove mould and algae from house walls?
A proper clean lifts mould, algae and built-up grime. The shady side of the house usually grows back first, so a periodic clean keeps it in check.
How often should a house be washed?
There's no set schedule: most homes need a wash when mould, grime or cobwebs start to show, and shade makes the biggest difference. In Melbourne, south-facing walls and shaded paths stay damp and go green fastest, while sunny walls stay clean much longer. Paint makers recommend regular washing too: Dulux suggests washing its Weathershield exterior paint every year in sheltered and inland areas, and every six months in coastal and industrial areas, using low-pressure water. Many owners also book a wash before painting or selling.
Should a house be washed before it's painted?
Yes, in most cases: dirt, chalky old paint, mould and loose flakes stop new paint bonding properly, so washing is a normal first step in exterior prep. The walls then need to dry out completely before any paint goes on, and how long that takes depends on the surface and the weather. WorkSafe Victoria says paint on buildings from before 1970 should be tested for lead before work starts, and lead paint shouldn't be pressure washed or dry sanded, because that spreads lead dust. We do both the washing and the painting, so text Wayne photos for a quote on both.
Can you clean the house walls, paths and driveway in one job?
Yes. Send photos of the house, paths and driveway and we'll quote it as one job.
Do you clean roofs?
Yes. Roof cleaning lifts moss, lichen and algae, and roofs are quoted after a look at a photo. See our roof cleaning page for more.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry public liability insurance.
